Although student-athletes haven’t had a class for nine weeks now at Sedona Red Rock High, the Scorpion cheer team continues to work hard through the summer and their efforts have paid off.
On July 14, the Sedona cheer squad won the Universal Cheerleaders Association summer camp title, beating multiyear state champion Hamilton High in the process.
Because the West Sedona and Big Park campuses are closed this summer due to construction, all new registrations for the 2009-2010 school year must wait until campuses are open. Please note campus opening dates for each school below.
Big Park Community School opens July 29.
West Sedona School opens August 3.
Kathleen Wright
Kathleen joined the school district in September 1999. She has the huge responsibility of being the Accounts Payable Manager. She works extremely hard paying the school district’s bills in a timely manner and thus keeping our vendors happy. Kathleen, along with Sally Cadigan, has provided nice stability in the district office over the past ten years. She is an avid animal lover and enjoys “dog sitting” for her daughter even though it means very early morning walks. The Sedona-Oak Creek School District is very fortunate to have such a dedicated and good natured lady as Kathleen serving the public. - written by Superintendent Mike Aylstock
Jimmy Silva
Jimmy has been working for the Sedona-Oak School District since 2001. He came to the District Office after a brief stint working at Red Rock High School, and we are so glad he did. If there was ever a Jack of all Trades it is Jimmy. He keeps the District Office clean, handles maintenance issues in the building, takes care of the distribution of mail throughout the district, and carries out all of his responsibilities with a big smile. Sedona residents and visitors are invited to join thousands of other communities nationwide in celebrating the 26th Annual National Night Out with a free community picnic and BBQ on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sedona City Hall, 102 Roadrunner Drive. National Night Out is designed to increase community involvement and strengthen partnerships between the community and local public safety agencies.
Free hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and sodas donated by local merchants will be served throughout the evening along with live demonstrations, live music and a wide range of information on public safety topics. Those attending can have children fingerprinted for free, see the latest in law enforcement, fire fighting, safety and rescue equipment, learn ways to make their homes and streets safer as well as meet community public safety officials.
Sedona’s celebration is hosted by the Sedona Police Department with participation from numerous other public service agencies and private organizations including Department of Public Safety (DPS), Friends of the Forest, Sedona Fire District, Arizona Rangers, Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), Arizona Attorney General’s Office (identity theft information), and Sedona Food Bank.
The Sedona Police Department motor officers will be doing Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etching and child safety seat inspections.
This year’s celebration is being organized by the Sedona Community Police Alliance (CPA) and the Police Department’s citizen volunteer group. CPA volunteers will also be assisting Sedona Police Department officers with a number of the demonstration and informational sites and explaining police volunteer service opportunities.
